1. What is an eMTB and how does it work?
Electric mountain bikes (eMTBs) are designed with an integrated electric motor to assist your pedaling, providing an extra boost when needed. Unlike a throttle-based scooter, the motor only engages when you are actively pedaling, and it scales its output based on how hard you're pushing and which assist mode you've selected. You have the option to adjust the levels of assistance on the fly — from Eco for maximum range to Boost for short bursts of climbing power — letting you tailor the ride to the terrain in front of you rather than committing to one setting for the whole trail.
2. What are the advantages of an eMTB?
eMTBs offer accessibility for all skill levels, allowing riders to conquer challenging inclines effortlessly. They also provide extended range, making it possible to explore distant trails without feeling fatigued. With eMTBs, climbing steep hills becomes a breeze, reducing physical strain and preserving energy for an enhanced riding experience. Whether you're a seasoned rider or recovering from an injury, eMTBs offer customizable assistance, giving you the freedom to tailor your ride to your preferences.
3. What's the difference between the Amflow PX, PR, and TL?
Amflow PX is the lightest platform in the lineup (20.6kg on Carbon Pro), trading nothing on torque headroom — up to 150N·m — in a race-ready package built for riders who want climbing power without carrying extra weight uphill. It's available in Carbon and Carbon Pro trims, with the Pro stepping up to FOX Factory-level suspension, SRAM X0 Eagle Transmission, and carbon wheels. Amflow PR adds a swappable battery and mixed-wheel (29"/27.5") setup for all-mountain and enduro riding, and is the one model in the range where the two trims use genuinely different drive units: Carbon runs the Avinox M2 at 125N·m, while Carbon Pro steps up to the Avinox M2S at up to 150N·m alongside FOX Float X Performance suspension and Magura Gustav Pro brakes. Amflow TL is the most versatile "SUV"eBike in the series, adding full suspension, up to 200kg total carrying capacity, and up to 1280Wh of total battery capacity for touring and daily commuting in one bike. 4. Hardtail vs. full-suspension eMTBs — what's the difference?
Hardtail bikes feature a single front suspension fork with a rigid rear end, which makes them lighter, cheaper, and more efficient at converting pedaling and motor power into forward motion — ideal for smoother trails, fire roads, and efficient climbs where you want every watt going toward speed rather than absorbing bumps. The tradeoff shows up on rocky or root-strewn terrain, where the rigid rear triangle transmits more impact straight to the rider, making for a rougher, more fatiguing ride at speed. Full suspension bikes , equipped with both front and rear shocks, keep the rear wheel tracking the ground through impacts, offering a noticeably more comfortable and controlled ride over rough ground and excelling on technical, high-speed trails. Despite being heavier and pricier due to the added linkage, pivots, and rear shock, their enhanced traction, comfort, and control make full suspension a worthwhile investment for most riders — which is why every current Amflow eMTB model (PX, PR, and TL) ships as full suspension.
5. How far will my eMTB go? What's the battery range?
Range depends heavily on the model, battery configuration, rider weight, terrain, tire choice, and assist mode — riding in Boost up a steep climb will always draw down the battery faster than cruising in Eco on flat pavement. Based on official Eco-mode testing (80kg rider, flat paved road, default assist settings), Amflow PX Carbon Pro reaches up to 144km on its 700Wh battery, Amflow PR Carbon reaches up to 158km on its 800Wh battery, and Amflow TL reaches up to 106mi on its 800Wh battery. Real-world mixed-terrain rides in higher assist modes will typically see meaningfully shorter distances than these Eco-mode lab figures. Models like the TL and PR also support optional secondary batteries for extended, multi-day range without needing to recharge mid-trip. 6. How fast can an eMTB go?
Speed limits vary according to country/region, and eMTBs are electronically limited to comply with local regulations rather than left uncapped. Some of the more notable limits are as follows: European Union: 25 kph, United Kingdom: 25 kph, United States: 32 kph (20 mph), China: 25 kph. Amflow eMTBs automatically adjust their maximum assisted speed to comply with the regulations of the country/region you are in, based on your account region and firmware settings — motor assistance simply tapers off once you cross the local limit, though you can of course still pedal faster under your own power on a descent.
7. How can I choose an electric mountain bike that's right for me?
Choosing an electric mountain bike involves many factors, such as usage scenarios, distances you plan to travel, riding style, and how much you value low weight versus outright capability and carrying capacity. A racer chasing Strava times will prioritize completely different specs than someone planning multi-day bikepacking trips with camping gear on the rack.
